The Department of Public Works and Infrastructure is seeking a Chief Quantity Surveyor (Grade A) to work in their Cape Town regional office. This is a full-time position with a salary of R990,747 per annum.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical support to project managers.
  • Maintain operational agreements between client departments and the Department of Public Works.
  • Conduct quality surveys on building designs.
  • Inspect buildings under construction and ensure adherence to standards.
  • Inspect existing buildings for proper utilization.
  • Review and approve new architectural designs.
  • Set maintenance standards and service levels.
  • Manage risk logs and provide technical consulting services.
  • Allocate, control, and monitor expenditures.
  • Monitor the performance of appointed consultants.
  • Mentor and train junior staff.
  • Develop and implement work systems and processes.

Qualifications:

  • Degree in Quantity Surveying or a relevant qualification.
  • Registered Professional Quantity Surveyor with SACQSP.
  • Six years of post-qualification experience in quantity surveying.
  • Experience working on infrastructure projects (both new and existing).
  • Proficiency in technical consulting and report writing.
  • Ability to draw up bills of quantities, submit payment certificates, and control project budgets.
  • Experience with institutional systems and processes.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Understanding of relevant legislation and construction industry contracts.
  • Good human relations and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of specific acts and regulations related to public finance, occupational health and safety, supply chain management, and contract management.
  • Applied knowledge of built environment legislation and regulations.
  • Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel.
