The Department of Water and Sanitation is seeking a highly skilled and motivated individual to join our team as a Chief Engineer (Grade A) based at our Pretoria Head Office. This position offers a competitive salary package ranging from R1,146,540 to R1,308,036 per annum, all-inclusive of OSD salary.

Requirements:

• A Civil Engineering degree (B Eng / BSc)
• Six (6) years post-qualification civil engineering experience
• Compulsory registration with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA) as a Professional Engineer
• Valid unexpired driver’s license
• Knowledge and understanding of government legislations relevant to the sector
• Programme and project management skills
• Proficiency in engineering design, analysis, and maintenance
• Ability to provide technical consulting and professional judgment
• Excellent communication skills both verbal and written
• Strong leadership and strategic capabilities
• Problem-solving, decision-making, and conflict management skills

Duties:

• Provide technical advice and support to Water Service Authorities (WSAs) as project managers
• Monitor the development and assessment of technical reports and feasibility studies for infrastructure projects
• Approve technical designs for project implementation
• Conceptualize solutions to meet water demands and ensure compliance with government regulations
• Manage administrative, financial, and personnel-related matters
• Conduct field inspections to ensure compliance with water sector standards
• Develop annual business plans and budgets for the directorate
• Manage professional service providers (PSPs) contracts and oversee their work
